On November 18, 2021, Con Edison kicked off their 2022 Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Energy Efficiency Program. In this article, we’ll explore what the program is, how it can benefit building owners in New York City, and more.
What is the C&I Energy Efficiency Program?
In a nutshell, the Program offers incentives for installing energy-efficient electric and gas equipment and technologies in your buildings. In the past 3 years, Con Edison has paid $83 million in cash incentives to commercial and industrial customers, saving over 250 million kWh and 5 million Therms annually – reducing their carbon footprint by over 200,000 metric tons.
The Benefits of Participating
Being energy efficient can help improve your organization’s bottom line by reducing energy use and maintenance costs while increasing operational efficiencies. Energy efficiency also helps protect the environment by reducing the amount of energy that needs to be generated.
Who is Eligible to Participate?
All customers with a commercial account over 100 kW average peak demand on a rolling 12-month basis are eligible for the program. You may not apply for or receive an incentive from NYSERDA, Con Edison or another utility for the same project. Additionally, the efficiency project must be in an existing facility, equipment must be installed after the customer receives a Notice to Proceed from Con Edison, and the building must be directly metered commercial or industrial. To be eligible for 2022 incentive rates, all projects must be completed by November 15, 2022, to be guaranteed for 2022 incentive rates.
All About the Incentives
Incentives can cover up to 70% of project costs on eligible measures. Incentives include:
- LED lighting upgrades
- Interior lighting controls
- HVAC measures
- Refrigeration measures
…and more. (Click here to view a full list of the incentives, including what’s new in 2022).
How to Participate
To get started, determine your project’s eligibility, complete a short application, and speak with one of Con Edison’s Energy Advisors with any questions about your energy efficiency project. Once the project is approved and completed, the incentive will be mailed to you, or directly to the Participating Contractor, with customer approval.
