Welcome to part two of our WatchWire Q&A! In this article, we’ll be answering the most commonly asked questions that we hear from potential clients about our platform, WatchWire. We hope this article will help you determine what to look for in an integrated sustainability and energy management platform.
This is part two of a two-part article. You can view part one here.
Question #1: Can WatchWire provide calculations of carbon emissions?
Yes! The platform uses EPA Egrid and IEA emission factors to calculate your emissions. You can also use your own emission factors if you prefer.
Question #2: Does the vendor keep the emission factors up to date or does the end user need to update them?
Watchwire maintains the most up-to-date emission factors from the EPA and IEA, so you do not have to worry about updating them.
Question #3: How long does implementation of the platform take?
That depends on the scope and size of your implementation. Generally, however, implementation takes about 3-5 months.
Question #4: How often is the utility data in the platform updated? And how accurate is it?
The platform can automatically connect to your utility account (WatchWire supports 9,000 utilities globally) and the utility bill data is updated shortly after the bill is posted to your utility account. Interval data is near real-time for meters with API or Data Logger connections.
Question #5: What types of utility accounts are supported by WatchWire, i.e., energy and non-energy utilities?
The platform supports electric, gas, propane, fuel oil, steam, gasoline, diesel, water, waste, and multiple streams of recycling.
Question #6: Can I create my own reports, or do I have to use the ones WatchWire offers?
Platform users can choose between creating their own reports, using a BI integration, or using the reports we offer.
Question #7: Is WatchWire a cloud-based solution?
The platform is a web-based (SaaS) system with native cloud architecture.
Question #8: Can the platform visualize and report on interval data from either consumption or generation meters?
Yes, our platform has the ability to support interval data and real-time pulse meter data for consumption and generation meters in an easy-to-use user interface.
Question #9: Can the platform track both supply contract details and off-site renewable energy credits (RECs)?
The platform is able to track supply contract details as well as both on-site generation of renewable power sources and off-site renewable energy credits (RECs). WatchWire can also provide a carbon offset view of power purchases from the grid vs. on-site renewables generated vs. off-site RECs.
